Chapter 3: Veilstone City Gym

Part 3: Veilstone City Gym

Team Galactic Building

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

After defeating the gym, heal up at the Pokémon Center. While you are here, you can speak to the lady here to get a Friendship Checker Pokétch app. Afterwards, head to the north area of the city and someone named Cynthia will stop you and give you three copies of TM93 - Cut. You'll also now be able to use Cut outside of battle.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

Our next objective is to get a bike. You can head into the bike shop if you'd like, but you'll find that the manager is missing and went to the Team Galactic building. This is right by where you met Cynthia. Cut down the trees in front of the building. Before heading inside, there is another tree you can cut down to the right which leads to TM46 - Thief. Head inside after picking it up.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

Once inside the building, you'll need to defeat two Galactic Grunts before you can head up to the second floor. On the second floor, you can battle a couple grunts sitting at computers or you can just head up to the third floor. Here, there are two more battles you'll need to win before ascending up another floor.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

On this top floor, you'll find Galactic Commander Jupiter, who you will of course need to defeat in battle. She has a Lv. 18 Zubat and a Lv. 20 Skuntank. The Skuntank is pretty tough and can burn you, so watch out for that. Once defeated, the bike shop owner will tell you stop by his shop for your reward, so exit the building and do just that.

Getting the Bike

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

Once inside the bike shop, speak to the owner who will give you a Bike and even let you choose the color. Before you leave you'll need to stop by the house next to the Pokémon Center and pick up the Explorer Kit from the old man here. This will let you enter the Grand Underground, which the Underground Man will show you how to use. This is an optional area you can explore that will let you catch Pokémon not native to Sinnoh (it won't be covered in this walkthrough). Once you return to the surface, he will also give you the Red Sphere S, Blue Sphere S, and Green Sphere S.

Route 206

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

With the bike in hand, you can exit south to Route 206, better known as Cycling Road. It's hard to tell, but the road is at a steep downward angle, so you'll be automatically pulled to the south. There are many trainers along the route that you can battle or try to dodge. When you get to the end of the road, speak to the girl in the building to get 3 Sky Stickers B.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

Exit to your south to find yourself in another part of Route 206. If you cut the trees and head north to the area under the Cycling Road, there are a number of goodies to find. These include a Super Repel, a Burn Heal, a Poison Barb, some Rawst Berries, and a trainer. The cave to the north is completely dark for now, so head back south instead.

Route 207

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

Off to the left are some berries you can collect. Continue south onto Route 207 and you'll run into Dawn again. Answer either hand and she will give you both items, the Vs. Seeker and the Dowsing Machine Pokétch app. Head to the left for another assortment of berries. Head south down the ramp and you'll find a connection back to Oreburgh City. You can use this opportunity to heal up if you want. There is a Poké Ball in the left corner here, otherwise head back up the slope and to the right.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

Take the narrow ledge that leads you to the lower path here. There are a number of trainers you can battle if you'd like. You can also pick up a Dire Hit by crossing the bridge to a nearby ledge. Hop down the ledge back to the upper path and you can battle a few more trainers and pick up a Super Potion if you want. Afterwards, head into the cave to the right.

Route 208

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

Inside the cave, Mount Coronet, head right and you'll run into a Team Galactic member who has a rather gloomy outlook on humanity. Simply continue through the short cave to the right and exit on the other side. Once outside, if you take the bridge to the north you can take a path to pick up an X Speed. Continue right across the bridge where you'll need to battle some hikers. You can then smash some rocks and grab the Poké Ball on a little ledge.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

Continue right down into the grassy area. You can find a hidden jar of Honey near the tree to the south. To the north in this area is the Berry Master's House. You can pick the berries near here and inside you can buy some berries if you want. The Berry Master will also give away a free berry every day. There are a couple trainers you can battle if you want, otherwise just continue to the right into the city.

Hearthome City

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

When you get to Hearthome City, a Super Contest judge named Keira will greet you and tell you to meet her in the Contest Hall later. Head to the building to the right of the Poké Mart, which is the Pokémon Fan Club. Speak to the man inside to get a Poffin Case.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

Heal up if you need to, then head to the large building centered to the north of the city. Speak to the woman in front of the building who turns out to be Fantina, the gym leader of this city. Unfortunately we are not quite ready for her gym, but you can now enter the Contest Hall nonetheless. Inside you'll run into Keira again who is surprisingly with your mom. You'll be given some stickers and a Tuxedo to help with your style in the contests.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

You can enter some Super Contests if you'd like, but they are completely optional and won't be covered in this walkthrough. If you head south to go out of town you'll run into your rival who will challenge you to a battle. So make sure your team is at full health before going this way. Depending on the starter you chose, he will have a Lv. 19 Starly, a Lv. 20 Buizel/Roselia, a Lv. 20 Ponyta/Roselia, and a Lv. 21 evolved starter.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

Heal up again and then create an open spot in your party. On the way out of town to the southeast, speak to the Hiker next to the route sign. He will give you an Egg that will hatch into a Happiny if you carry it with you for 10,240 steps. Then continue to the right out of town onto Route 209.

Route 209

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

There's a lot of optional trainers on this route. The first thing to do is speak to the fisherman on the dock to the right to get the Good Rod. This lets you fish and catch Pokémon in the water. If you cross the bridge to the north to get to the berry trees you can speak to a woman on the upper bridge to get some stickers.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

There is a mandatory double battle against some twins in the central area. Continue right from here and you'll reach an area with several craters. You can find some hidden items if you check out the center of them. Continue north from here where you can find more optional trainers and several items to pick up. Off to the right, behind a tree you can cut down, you'll find a copy of TM47 - Steel Wing.

Lost Tower

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

There is a tower in a crater to the northeast here. This is the Lost Tower, home to many Ghost type Pokémon and trainers. Make it up the first few floors and pick up the goodies along the way. On the fourth floor is a copy of TM27 - Low Sweep. If you make it to the fifth and final floor you'll get three copies of TM96 - Strength from the lady on the left and a Cleanse Tag from the lady on the right. Strength is also an HM move, but you'll need to defeat the next gym to use it.

Solaceon Town

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

After exiting the Lost Tower, continue north to enter Solaceon Town. There's a few optional things you can do here. The Pokémon Nursery is in this town, so you can leave Pokémon to level up or breed here if you'd like. There is also the Solaceon Ruins to the east of town where you can catch some Unown. There's really not much else to do here, so once you've healed up head north to leave town.

Route 210

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

Head north along this route, which is littered with trainers. Most of them can be avoided if you'd prefer. There is a cafe to the north of the route where you can buy some Moomoo Milk and battle some more trainers if you'd like. Otherwise, just continue east onto Route 215.

Route 215

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

On this route, it is always raining. Follow the path up the stairs and across the bridges to the east. There's a bunch of optional trainers here and if you cut the tree down near the top of the screen it leads to a Fist Plate you can pick up. Further east from this you can pick up a copy of TM34 - Shock Wave by cutting down some more trees and heading down the small stairs. Continue past the forced double battle and a little further east to find yourself in Veilstone City.

Veilstone City Gym

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

We are finally in Veilstone City, and you can take on the third gym right away. Go ahead and heal up at the Pokémon Center in the center of town. You can then head over to the gym in the southwest corner of the city.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

Veilstone City Gym specializes in Fighting-type Pokémon. So, you'll want to bring some Psychic and Flying types with you. The puzzle for this gym is a little complex. You'll need to move sliding panels around (by pushing them from the side) to make a path forward to the gym leader. There are also four blackbelt trainers here that can mostly be avoided if you are careful, but serve as good training for the gym leader. You'll essentially need to line up the panels with the staircases in all three columns in order to clear the path down the middle. In general terms, you'll want to line up the right, left, middle, right, and middle in that order.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

Maylene will use Fighting-type Pokémon, of course. She has a Lv. 27 Meditite, a Lv. 27 Machoke, and a Lv. 30 Lucario. The Lucario can be quite tough, since it has the ability to boost it's attack and defense and then hit hard with Drain Punch. Because of his Steel typing, Flying and Psychic moves aren't super effective either, so if you have any Fire or Ground moves use those instead.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Walkthrough

After winning the battle, you'll be awarded with the Cobble Badge. You'll also get five copies of TM60 - Drain Punch and some stickers that Maylene uses. You'll also be able to use the HM Fly outside of battle.
